Welcome to IPMOC

Welcome to the Interfaith Peace Ministry of Orange County (IPMOC.org) website. We are a coalition of various faith-based communities working together for faith based peace-with-justice, ecumenical outreach, education and justice awareness issues. Inside our site you will find articles, resources, our newsletter, movie and book titles, a calendar of local events, and links to other organizations and individuals providing a voice for peace with justice in a growing world of indifference, intolerance and aggression. Only speaking together in faith and love can we overcome the darkness surrounding our communities, our leaders, and the world.

Please see the  Action Opportunities section below to see how you can help change our world one decision at a time

A documentary film that intimately reveals a rarely seen view of murder's aftermath: families left behind, their lives torn apart by the random loss of a loved one.  It tells four stories of murder victims' families reliving the crimes and confronting the loss of loved ones. Their instinct for revenge during trial and the debate for punishment by death climaxes in a search to forgive and heal.

The Empty Chair, 5 years in the making debuted at the Hamptons International Film Festival in 2003 and was later invited to screen at the Vermont International Human Rights Film Festival. Amnesty International selected the documentary to screen in 700 locations across the country during the National Weekend of Faith in Action in 2005 and 2006.    2006, 42 minutes

When:  Friday, February 24, 2012   7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Where:  Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange Justice Office and Center for Spiritual Development
Orange County Pax Christi, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange Justice Office and Center for Spiritual Development cordially invite you to join us for an evening with John Dear.

John Dear's ground-breaking new book "Lazarus Come Forth!," explores the story of the raising of Lazarus in the Gospel of John, chapter 11, and suggests that Lazarus represents "humanity" stuck in the culture of death, and that Jesus represents "the God of Life" calling humanity out of the tombs, out of the culture of violence and war, into "the new life of resurrection peace." This book invites us to carry on Jesus' liberating work of obeying his commandments--to take away the stone that keeps us trapped in our violent culture of war, to call each other out of the tombs, to unbind one another and to set each other free to live in peace and nonvoilence.

Action Opportunities

AB 1148 the California DISCLOSE Act

On October 8, 2011 the Interfaith Peace Ministry voted to endorse AB 1148 the California DISCLOSE Act, which

“mandates clear and prominent disclosure of who is behind political TV, radio, print, and slate mailer ads,
on the ads themselves, for both ballot measures and independent expenditures for and against candidates.”

It will “stop corporations and other big-money contributors from hiding behind fake committee names by requiring ads to show their actual largest contributors.”

There are ways for both individuals to support and organizations to endorse AB 1148.  We encourage you to do that as individuals and to urge any organizations you are a part of to be an endorser.

Please go to www.CAclean.org  for more information.

The forms to endorse or support can be found at http://www.caclean.org/materials/print.php.  At this latter site you can also find a Petition for AB 1148, the California DISCLOSE Act.  You can print this out and get signatures from other supporters.  The signed petitions can be mailed to California Clean Money Campaign, 3916 S. Sepulveda Blvd.., #109, Culver City, CA 90230.

For more information - Craig Preston is the Field Organizer / Accounting Administrator for California Clean Money Campaign.  Office 310-397-0200

Invisible Children

Picture
Each fall, Invisible Children brings free presentations and a speaker from Uganda to youth groups and congregations across the country to offer communities a way to be better global servants.

As a nonprofit focused on ending the 25 year war in Central Africa, we are currently rebuilding war-affected schools and providing educational scholarships in Uganda while working to reduce the effects of rebel attacks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic.

We currently have screenings available for Sundays in October 2011. Our presentations are approximately one hour long and we do request an audience of at least 200 people. If you are interested, please contact Jocelyn Gonzalez at 619-562-2799 ext. 182 or jgonzalez@invisiblechildren.com. Thank you for your time. I invite you to visit www.invisiblechildren.com
